Waste Disposal Plants-Indian Railway

Railways have proposed a pilot project for disposal of municipal solid waste generated at major railway terminals in an environment friendly manner, including conversion of waste to energy. Jaipur (Rajasthan) and New Delhi (Delhi) stations have been identified for setting up pilot plants. Bio-gas produced by processing bio-degradable waste is proposed to be used to generate electricity in these pilot plants.

Railways have further identified 08 major stations for setting up Solid Waste Management plants as under :

(i) Secunderabad : Telangana

(ii) Chennai : Tamil Nadu

(iii) Varanasi : Uttar Pradesh

(iv) Allahabad : Uttar Pradesh

(v) Patliputra/Patna : Bihar

(vi) Mumbai : Maharashtra

(vii) Sealdah : West Bengal

(viii) Howrah : West Bengal

This Press Release is based on the information given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Rajen Gohain in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on 26.07.2017 (Wednesday).
