Creation of Jobs in Railways

Vacancies in Railways system are filled up through Railway Recruitment Board/Railway Recruitment Cells. At present, recruitment is underway for appointing about 1 lakh employees.

As far as indirect employment generation is concerned, the same is generated in Railway ecosystem through outsourcing of non-core activities/works through contracting agencies. During the last five years, approx. 2.41 lakh candidates have been empanelled to fill vacancies all over Indian Railways.

At present recruitment is under process for appointing about 1 lakh employees as per following details:-

(i) Level-1 (erstwhile Group ‘D’) posts: 62,907

(ii) Assistant Loco Pilots and Technicians:- 26,502

(iii) Constables in Railway Protection Force:- 8,619

(iv) Sub-Inspectors in Railway Protection Force:- 1,120.

In addition to recruitment to regular posts, employment is also generated by way of outsourcing of non-core activities/works.

This information was given by the Minister of State of Railways, Shri Rajen Gohain in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
