DEDICATE UDHNA-JALGAON RAIL DOUBLING PROJECT

Udhna-Jalgaon Doubling Status 2019

According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the very important Udhna-Jalgaon rail doubling with electrification project is being dedicated to the nation by Hon’ble PM. Indian Railways is evolving rapidly as the engine of national growth and development. Hon’ble Minister of Railways – Shri Piyush Goyal had emphasized on timely completion of projects by fast-tracking the works, which not only checks the cost escalation but also makes the facility available faster to the people. Western Railway is committed to be in the forefront by setting new benchmarks in vital areas of speed, security, safety and service. The very ambitious Doubling & Electrification Project of Udhna – Jalgaon section under Western Railway is one such commendable feat achieved in record time. Udhana-Jalgaon connects two electrified trunk routes of Western and Central Railway, namely Mumbai – Nagda of Western Railway and Mumbai CST – Bhusaval – Itarsi of Central Railway. This was a single line section covering 307 RKM in which 208 RKM lies in Maharashtra and 99 RKM in Gujarat. Also known as Tapti Valley section, it is an alternative coal route from collieries to Gujarat and Mumbai area. In addition, it also serves as an important cross link for long distance Mail/ Express services passing through Western & Central Railways. Electrification and doubling of this route obviates the need of change of traction at Jalgaon and Surat thus reducing engine and wagon detentions, giving an operational boost to the rail traffic. The total length of the project was about 307 kms, where almost 157 kms of the project was fast-tracked and executed in just one and a half years. By ensuring correct and timely decisions, excellent co-ordination between departments and acceleration at grassroots level the entire project was revitalized, giving it a new momentum. This project has been undertaken at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 2447 crore. The entire Udhna-Jalgaon section will provide East – West corridor and enable faster movement of trains. It will also now be possible to introduce additional goods and passenger trains on this route benefiting local residents in this area. Electrification at this section will act as a catalyst for development of the areas of Nandurbar, Vyara, Dharangaon and other places on the section. It will also provide better connectivity to north Maharashtra with under construction Dedicated Freight Corridor.
