World Heritage Day celebrated on Central Railway
Display of Steam Locomotive and Coach Model made out of recyclable cardboard and corrugated paper
A life-size model of a steam loco and a heritage coach was unveiled today by Shri D. K. Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway in the gallery of the passenger walkway towards Platforms 14 to 18 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai today (18.03.2019). The life-size models are made entirely of cardboard and corrugated paper and have been installed courtesy Spectrum Scan Pvt. Ltd.
The models have been used to display pictorially the many firsts of CR (erstwhile Great Indian Peninsula Railway) – first passenger train in India on 16.04.1853, first Electric traction, first Suburban, first Diesel and Electric maintenance shed, first station to be manned solely by women.
The model is a major attraction for passengers and rail customers moving through CSMT and the installation of a live loco whistle and a selfie point in the displayed coach model add to the visitor attraction.
The display and unveiling of the locomotive model and its showcasing of the firsts on Central Railway were part of Heritage related activities undertaken by CR on World Heritage Day, 18th April.
Apart from rail customers in CSMT, enthusiastic students from Railway School, Kalyan were part of the unveiling and enthusiastically took photographs and selfies with the displayed model.
